OWCP often pays bills to medical providers that are not related to the accepted injury. They also pay medical bills for claims that have not been approved. Please be aware of the following:
1. Payment of bills does not constitute acceptance of the claim.
2. OWCP may disallow a claim, even when it has paid the bills. The provider then must reimburse OWCP. The doctor will then look to the claimant for payment.
In fact, OWCP has the authority to rescind (take back) the acceptance of the claim and then collect any payments from the claimant and/or the medical provider.
