Fed Worker Injury, Illness and Employment Codes

Different types of injuries or illnesses, sources of injury and occupations are given an alphanumeric classification by the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWPC). The chart below includes a list of those classifications.

Special Note to Injured Postal Workers: As a postal worker your occupation code consists of the characters "PS" plus the first four numbers of the appropriate occupation code.

If you are another type of injured Federal employee your code begin with the two letters of your pay plan (i.e., "GS", "GM", "WG", etc.) followed by the four numbers of your occupation series.

If you are a worker who performs services for the Federal government but does not have a job title which falls under the usual job classification systems, a list of "non-standard" occupation codes and titles is included in the list below. Each code begins with the characters "??" instead of the usual pay plan letters.
