Claims for mental injuries have increased drastically in the last few years.  The uniqueness of the service in countries such Iraq and Afghanistan seem to have produced an influx in PTSD claims.

Employers and their insurance carriers are skeptical about the validity of these claims.  The information presented at the Annual Longshore Conference sponsored by Loyola University, revealed that the employers are willing to spend considerable resources to question and defeat these claims.  It is a given that any PTSD claim will be hotly contested.  A claimant diagnosed with PTSD had best seek legal advice early in the claim process.
